Natural ecosystems have immense economic, provisioning, cultural and intrinsic values. The IFD lab strives to understand the trade-offs and synergies among these values under a range of production and conservation management systems. Our work relies on quantitative tools, including geographic information systems (GIS), ecological economics, simulation modelling, decision science and land cover change analyses for assessing ecosystem management scenarios. We work at local, national, and global scales, and we tend to focus on applied management problems in Canada and the Southeast Asia region.
